EOS Sparta is organizing a mountaineering expedition in Oligirto on Sunday 1/9/2024. Oligyrtos is a mountain in the Peloponnese, 1,935 meters high. It is located at the point where the prefectures of Argolis, Corinthia and Arcadia meet. Northwest it borders Kyllini (Zeria), east with Mainalos and southwest with Trachy. Its name derives from the ancient Greek word "Oligyrtos" meaning "less term", probably because of its low height compared to other surrounding mountains.
The natural environment of Oligyrtos is densely forested, mainly with pine trees, and provides spectacular panoramic views of the valleys of Feneos and Stymphalia and the surrounding mountains. The mountain is also home to a variety of wildlife, including various mammal species, birds, and reptiles.
Our course starts from the village of Lafka Korinthia (685m). The route begins from the village square on an ascending path to the chapel of St. Savior who meets after an hour and 500m. difference. There is a source of running water at the site. Next follows a wooded path with pine trees which gradually give their place to low subalpine vegetation heading the Goupata plateau (1,200m). It crosses the plateau with a southern direction, followed by a smooth gourd which leads to the crossing of the ridge and continues NW to the top of Skipiza (1,935 m). Return from the same path.
Note: The excursion is addressed to people in good physical condition as the elevation differences that we will cover are great.
