A very interesting route based on Parori is the ascent to the cave monastery of Panagia Zagouna from where we can continue to the monastery of Faneromeni. By a good stone path we reach the monastery, which shines all white in the large cavity of the cave behind the low enclosure.
The monastery consists of a cluster of cells with frescoes. At the entrance to the enclosure is the inscription of the monasterys foundation (1754). It has been suggested that a sanctuary functioned on this site in antiquity but it is believed that the ancient remains in the church are most likely to have been destroyed.
The church is dedicated to the Virgin Mary and is celebrated on 21 November.
After Zagouna we follow the path and then small olive grove alleys and passing by the chapel of Agios Dimitrios we arrive at the monastery of Faneromeni.
